Minimum Wage Raises in Eight States
Posted on January 01, 2012
Now that it’s 2012, eight states will be raising their minimum wage to adjust to the rising cost of basic necessities. While most raises will be modest (28 to 37 cents per hour), Washington will become the first state to surpass the $9 ceiling. The other states raising their rates in January include Arizona, Colorado, Florida, Montana, Ohio, Oregon and Vermont. These states have cost-of-living adjustments in their state laws that require the minimum wage to be adjusted annually, usually pegged to the Consumer Price Index.
